What is IELTS?
IELTS stands for "International English Language Testing System". It is an internationally recognized standardized test of English language proficiency, divided into listening, reading, writing, and speaking sections. Most Australian, British, Canadian, Irish, New Zealand, and South African educational institutions accept it as a measure of English language ability, and it is also an immigration requirement in Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. It is the world's most popular English language exam for university admissions and immigration.
How are IELTS coaching different from ESL classes?
IELTS coaching is not an English class. If you don't already know how to read, speak or write in English, then IELTS coaching won't help you much.
IELTS coaching is intended for people who already have little ability with the English language to achieve IELTS band scores, by giving them techniques and strategies to perform better in exams.
Do you need coaching?
Coaching is not required before taking the IELTS exam. However, it is very beneficial if you want to get the best score you can. Depending on whether you are taking the IELTS exam, the IELTS coaching band can make a difference in achieving a score that will allow you a visa to the country you want to immigrate to, or admission to the college or university you want to study at.
Different types of coaching
There are different ways to approach IELTS coaching.
If money is not a thing you can find an individual or one-to-one coaching sessions. This way your teacher can give you direct and immediate feedback on how you are performing. Assuming the teacher is competent and experienced in the IELTS test, then this is the most expensive way to prepare for the IELTS test. Individual tutoring is not a guarantee of the best results - if your choice is between group coaching from a teacher who really knows their content, and individual tutoring from someone who may not know, then you might be better off with group coaching.
Size affects With so many people in the room, the details of your own situation will receive little attention or feedback from the teacher and you can only review the content online. The size of more than 15 classes definitely reduces the value of tutoring.
You can also watch online coaching. There is an abundance of content on the internet that you can review for little or no value. The downside of this approach is that you get no feedback on your own personal situation. The real-life flesh and blood teacher is able to draw special attention to specific areas that may hold you back, while the materials are to write for everyone's online content. You may find this offer a great complement to other tutoring options instead of a complete replacement
